Project Overview

This project involved the development of a 1100 sqft lower level in a walkout basement for a family who recently immigrated from the tropical island of Mauritius. The aim was to integrate elements of their rich cultural heritage while maximizing the natural light available in the space. Over a span of four months, our team transformed this area into a functional and stylish living environment that reflects the family’s unique background and enhances their everyday living experience.

Design and Construction Process

From the outset, we collaborated with the homeowners to understand their desire for a design that seamlessly blended cultural elements with modern functionality. The design phase, led by Lisa Clark, focused on incorporating vibrant and traditional Mauritian motifs while ensuring the space was bright and inviting. The open-plan design was carefully planned to enhance the natural light, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

Collaboration with Skilled Trades

To bring this vision to life, we worked closely with a skilled network of tradespeople:

  • Design: Lisa Clark spearheaded the design process, infusing the space with cultural elements that celebrate the family’s heritage while maintaining a contemporary feel.
  • Construction: Our construction team handled the structural modifications and ensured that the space was prepared for the finishing touches.
  • Finishing: Our skilled carpenters and finishers provided the detailed craftsmanship necessary to bring Lisa Clark’s design to fruition.
  • Lighting: Specialized lighting experts were employed to optimize the natural light and enhance the ambiance of the lower level.
  • Custom Elements: Various artisans were engaged to create custom features that reflect Mauritian culture, including traditional artwork and furnishings.
